Interview with Carlos Fuente, Jr.
Cigar Aficionado, September 2005
"Carlos Fuente Jr. is one of the most recognized faces in the world of cigars. The 51-year-old president of Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia. is a passionate cigarmaker who finds inspiration in breaking new ground in the cigar business. He and his father, Carlos Sr., revived the perfecto shape with their immensely popular Hemingway series of cigars and drove the demand for full-flavored smokes with their creation of the Fuente Fuente OpusX, the first successful cigar to be made with a Cuban-seed wrapper grown under shade in the Dominican Republic. As the 10th anniversary of the Fuente Fuente OpusX launch loomed, Fuente Jr. sat down with senior editor David Savona for wide-ranging discussion on his past, present and future in the cigar business." |

Interview with Carlos Fuente, Jr.
Cigar Aficionado, November/December 1998
"Carlos Fuente Jr. has become one of the most recognizable people in the cigar business. While at the helm of Tabacalera A. Fuente y Cia., he has seen the company rise to one of the preeminent positions in the industry. Under the watchful eye of Carlos Sr., his father, Carlos Jr., with his sister, Cynthia Suarez, and brother-in-law, Wayne Suarez, have transformed their company from something they once described as a "small family business" into a powerhouse that produced nearly 40 million cigars in 1997." |

"The Fuente Family Bets On High-Quality Cigar Wrapper Grown in The Dominican Republic
Carlos Fuente Jr., 38, president of Tabacalera A. Fuente Co., stands expressionless at the entrance to the barn, soaking up the tranquility of a sunny December afternoon in the heart of the Dominican Republic, about a half mile from the tiny village of El Caribe, a two-hour drive southeast of Santiago. Though he's not letting the workers know it, in his heart, Fuente is more excited than a five-year-old on Christmas Eve. He can barely contain his pride and the absolute, pure joy he receives from this very unique, premium-cigar-wrapper farm in the Dominican Republic.
To Fuente, the most stunning aspect of this leaf is the taste. When Fuente says that it's like chocolate fudge on vanilla ice cream, he means that the taste of the wrapper changes the taste of the filler tobacco, enhancing rather than muting complexities. Leaving a spicy, warm taste on the palate, the young rosado wrapper still has too much bite, but there is that certain nuance in the aroma that is so much a signature of a fine cigar - - - - ." |
